Throughout the nineteenth century, cast iron was a popular material for producing various practical and decorative household objects, including writing implements – usually inkwells, paperweights, candlesticks, as well as blotters and clasps. The desk set is executed in Renaissance Revival style, but it is believed that it never formed a unified set.
